Summer Volunteer Placements 2007

NEYGT are holding an extravaganza of Dinodays throughout summer 2007 (30 July – 31 August) at various locations across North East Yorkshire.  The Dinodays are public events aimed at families with loads of activities and displays around dinosaurs and fossils.  Visitors can try their hand at making plaster cast fossils, designing dinosaurs, digging for fossils and even trying to solve our Trixie the Triceratops Crime Scene.  We also have a dinosaur and fossil exhibition with fabulous local fossils and an amazing Allosaurus skull.

Dinodays run Monday to Friday from 11am to 3pm.  As part of the Dinoday we also offer a walk where possible, either a fossil hunt on the beach or a short stroll around the local village looking at the influence of the local geology on the landscape.

A family day out

The Volunteers
Not all work!

We are looking for a team of volunteers to help run the Dinodays, lead the guided walks and participate in the varied work of the Trust.  You must be willing to take part in all aspects of our work from packing and unpacking Dinoday equipment, overseeing Dinoday activities, assisting with and in some cases leading guided walks (of course you will be fully briefed), publicising the Dinodays and our other events and much more.

Volunteers should be dynamic, outgoing, flexible, conscientious and above all reliable.

It doesn’t matter if you are a first year undergrad or a recent graduate. As long as you have a background and interest in geology, you are welcome to apply.  Availability for the full period (30 July – 31 August) is a distinct advantage. Please send your full CV to jane@neyorksgeologytrust.com.

In return you will receive an outstanding level of training and experience which will look fantastic on your CV.

Accommodation

The team will be based in the Old School House in the old part of Robin Hood’s Bay. The village is a picturesque old fishing (and smuggling) village within the North York Moors National Park. Perched above the village, the Old School House has beautiful views across the village and coastline. There is also some superb geology in the Bay.

NEYGT will be providing breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyone will be expected to pitch in with the cooking and cleaning.  You might want to bring along some munchies as Geology Trust work can leave you with a big appetite.  Please let us know any special dietary requirements or health issues we should be aware of.

The accommodation and 3 meals a day are free of charge to volunteers.
