We need your help! One of the things we do as a Geology Trust is to look at the many ways in which geology is expressed in our urban landscapes. Organisations specialise in the study of vernacular buildings. Yet some building works are so big or taken for granted that their history is forgotten. The Marine Drive in Scarborough is possibly such an example. It has been very much in the news in recent years with the construction of the coastal defences. Our Chairman, Stuart Swann has tried to find out about the original construction of the Drive between 1897 and 1908. Details on the social history are scattered and odd references can be found here and there but when it comes to technical details of the project he hasn’t unearthed any. He would be grateful if anyone could help with details. |

| Marine Drive 1872 and 1910. What Happened in between these two photographs? The reason the Trust is interested in such information is that we are developing background material for a project relating to the old wall round the drive, other walls in the area and the Geology involved. | |||
